Member named Volunteer of the Year

Don Rogier, SCGS Member, was awarded the Ohio Genealogical Society's " Chapter Volunteer of the Year Award" at the 2001 Annual Conference in Akron, Ohio - April 28th. Unlike some volunteers, Don has done nothing extra this year for the Society and genealogy. That is because he has perennially given 150% to the chapter. Since the Seneca County Genealogical Society was founded in 1981, Don has been an active and hardworking member every single year, without exception. Read the complete Letter of Nomination here.
Congratulations Don!

SCGS Publication Receives the
Henry Howe Award

Our Chapter's recent Publication, Seneca County History and Families was named the recipient of the Henry Howe Award at the Annual conference of the Ohio Genealogical Society which was held on Toledo, Ohio on April  22-25, 1999.

The Award, named for the 18th century author of the two volume set Historical Collections of Ohio,
recognizes the best Ohio state, county, or local History published during the preceding year.  Books nominated for the award were judged by a panel of Genealogists and librarians.

A certificate recognizing this honor was accepted by publications chairpersons Beverly and Jerry Wheatley and  President Don Rogier at the luncheon.  The Framed Certificate is now on display in the Genealogy corner at the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library.

If you would be interested in purchasing this book or other society publications, browse our publications for sale page.

Rebecca Hill named Fellow of OGS

For Seneca County, a highlight of the Ohio Genealogical Society's 2000 Annual Conference was the naming of our member Rebecca Hill as a fellow of the Ohio Genealogical Society.

The Ohio Genealogical Society uses the Fellow Award to  honor those who have made outstanding contributions to the field of Genealogy in the State of Ohio. It is the Hall of Fame for Ohio Genealogists.  In the past 40 years only about 80 genealogists have received the award.

We Thank Becky for all she has done, and continues to do , to promote genealogy in Ohio.  We appreciate all that she has done to promote the growth of our chapter, and we are glad to see her efforts recognized by the Ohio Genealogical Society by being named a Fellow of O.G.S.  CONGRATULATIONS BECKY!
